Iceland Lodge Some Day Trip destinations:
Borgarfjordur, Barnafossar waterfalls and Langjokull glacier.
Take your swimsuit with you as you might want to dip into one of the pools in the area.
On the way and perhaps a destination in itself Whalefjord (Hvalfjörður) with its Salmon River and a trail that passes a waterfall deep in the bottom of the fjord. There is a fine restaurant at Glymur.
Seljalandsfoss and Skogarfoss waterfalls, Solheimajokull glacier and Dyrholaey.
On your way you might want to stop by the Wonderful restaurant Hafid Blaa (Blue Ocean) and enjoy the view of breaking waves on the long black sand beach. 35 minutes drive from the Three Rivers Lodge.
You might also want to consider driving a little longer on the Ring Road than Dyrholaey to a village called Vik.
Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
Great to visit on a sunny day or a northern light lit night. See the Snaefellsnes glacier and stroll to the Stykkisholmur light house.
Hengill hiking and geothermal area.
Swimsuit optional natural jacuzzi is hidden in the mountains.
Thingvellir. Gullfoss, Geysir.
Thingvellir is on UNESCO World Heritage Site List. It takes less than half an hour to drive to Thingvellir from the Three Rivers Lodge.
The Blue Lagoon, Krisuvik and Hafnarfjordur.
On your way back from the Blue Lagoon consider dining in one of Hafnarfjordur fine restaurants.
Westman Islands.
It is only a short flight to Westman Islands. You can also drive taking the ferry from Thorlakshofn. Keiko from Free Willy lived there for a while.
Whale fjord
(A fjord just a few minutes away, 10 minutes drive to the edge) This is a fjord, similiar to the ones that can be found in the East of Iceland and the North West (West fjords). There is an old whaling station there. Lots of birdlife. Laxa i Kjos, Salmon River, restaurant and hiking routes. There is a good winding road with relatively little traffic as most of the traffic goes thru the tunnel underneath the fjord.
