The last leg of your journey to Iceland might be cheapest from Copenhagen, Oslo, London Stansted, London Heathrow, Frankfurt Rhein Main or Frankfurt Hahn.

If you are coming from Europe it might be cheapest to fly first to London, Copenhagen or Frankfurt. To get to Copenhagen the Cimber low-fare airline might be a good choice. To get to Frankfurt Hahn Ryanair might be a good choice.

You can also drive over from Europe and take the Smyril Line over from Norway, Denmark or from Scotland by taking a NorthLink Ferry first.

Icelandair flies from Baltimore/Washington, New York/JFK, Minnapolis/St Paul, Orlando, San Fransico and Philadelphia in the USA and from Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt Rhein Main, Glasgow, Gotenburg, Hamburg, Helsinki, London Heathrow, Milan, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Stockholm, Vienna and Zurich in Europe. New Icelandair is about to start flying from Manchester to Iceland.

Iceland Express flies from Copenhagen, London Gatwick and Frankfurt-Hahn. From May 2006 the airline will also fly from Bergen in Norway, Stockholm and Goteborg in Sweden, Hamburg, Berlin and Friedrichshafen in Germany. It is possible to buy one way tickets with Iceland Express so that you could plan a vacation that could take you to serveral places withouth having to fly back and forth between each leg. Please note great initial offers for early bookings.

If you are coming from America, you might get cheap flights direct or it might be cheaper to fly first all the way across the Atlantic via Icelandair at

or another carrier such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic or some of the US carriers. Delta flyes from its Atlanta hub to Copenhagen. It is easy to get cheap flights from Copenhagen to Iceland. (see above)

To get to an Icelandair US hub you might want to use Delta Airlines, Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines or Continental Airlines. It might be a good idea to figure out which airline uses a particular hub and then check with that airline. For example Northwest uses Minniapolis as a hub.

Here is the Icelandic Icelandair site:

Flights are normally cheapest from mid September till November and from February to April. On the other hand Iceland is at its best from May to August, but still very nice the other months too and not much colder due to the mild temperate climate.

(Please note when buying tickets with Icelandair you must travel each leg of your journey in the order they where initially planned. So if you want to skip a leg make sure its the last one.)
